Manistee National Bank

This building was constructed in 1883 as the home for the Manistee National Bank, one of Manistee's early, established banks. It continued successful operations for roughly 15 years until it was reported that it would be dissolved at the end of 1901. At the same time, it was also made known that Louis Sands and George Burr had joined together to form a co-partnership and would be opening a new bank in the same location. The building continued operations as a bank until 1925. Today, the building still houses the barrel arched brick vault in the lower level and the cornice still displays the original name - "Manistee National Bank", just as it did when it was constructed in 1883.
