Manistee Manufacturing Co.

After opening on the northside of the Maple Street Bridge in 1888, the Manistee Manufacturing Company quickly became one of the most well-known furniture factories in the area. The factory expanded in 1903 and eventually grew to include a series of buildings that housed the manufacturing complex. After the factory portion closed, the business was largely used as a sales and showroom. In 1976, a fire destroyed the southern building of the complex as well as the third floor of the next building over. The far two northern buildings were knocked down in 1982 leaving what remains today. In 2017, the North Channel Brewing Co. opened in the remaining structures of the former furniture factory, swapping one commercial business for another and in doing so honoring Manistee's industrial past.
