About this tour

Established in 1904, Palisade has a unique and interesting history which we are glad to share. We invite you to enjoy a walk as you experience a few "moments in time" of historic downtown Palisade. Many early Palisade settlers were from Iowa and held Valley-wide celebrations to honor their home state. In 1910, Palisade had two banks, two mercantile stores, a shoe store, two meat markets, two blacksmiths, three lumber yards, two livery stables, four churches, a jewelry store, a clothing store, several real estate businesses, a movie theatre, a bakery, three fruit platforms, two drugstores, a pool hall, a post office, two lawyers, three doctors and two dentists. In addition to the stops highlighted on this tour, you can also see historic photos of Palisade downtown at the kiosk on Kluge, 13° Brix Cider Bistro, the Historic Downtown Palisade signs between Kluge and Main St, at the bus stop on Main St., and the Town of Palisade Municipal Building. The Palisade History Museum is located at 3740 G Road - Hwy 6 near Elberta Ave. We wish to acknowledge valuable historical information initially researched in the 1960s and provided by James and Dorothy Barnes. Thanks also to Palisade Chamber of Commerce volunteers Bill Floryancic and Sandie Cooper for creating previous versions of the Palisade Historic Walking Tour brochure.
