About
The Palisades National Bank began operating at this location in 1905. Taking its name from the town, which was originally called Palisades after the dramatic cliffs of Mancos Shale north of town, the bank opened with $25,000 in capital. As was common at the time, the bank issued its own currency until 1929. By 1909, the bank built and moved into a new building at the corner of Third and Main where it remained until 2011. The Palisade Post Office relocated to this space from the Hugus Building Addition (Stop #23, 113 W. Third) and remained until November 1966 when the current Post Office was built. This space has been occupied by restaurants, including the Red Rose Cafe from 2004-2015, and 357 Bar & Grill.
