Old Mill Junction Arts & Heritage Alliance
The Sunset Rails Mural celebrates Old Mill Junction’s railroad history and the artists who continue shaping the community today. Stretching across the side of a restored brick warehouse, the mural blends historic locomotives with modern mountain sunsets and abstract wildflowers inspired by Colorado landscapes.
Locals often gather here during seasonal art walks and summer festivals. The mural has become a favorite backdrop for visitors exploring Old Mill Junction shops and cafes.
"Railroads are more than steel and timber—they are stories in motion. For this mural, I wanted to honor the trains, workers, families, and dreamers who helped build communities across Colorado. The locomotive represents progress and connection, while the mountain sunset reflects the beauty that continues to draw people together here today. The wildflowers woven throughout the composition symbolize the generations of artists, business owners, and residents who continue shaping this place. My goal was to create a piece that feels both historic and alive—a visual reminder that every community is built from countless journeys intersecting in one place." - London Richards
