Did You Know?

  • It was Vermont's first and last state prison and served the town for more than 150 years.
  • Boston architect-builder Stuart J. Park designed the original granite cellblock around 1809.
  • In 1828 warden Asahael Hubbard patented a rotary pump built from standardized parts made by machines in the prison — a seed of Windsor's precision-manufacturing future.
  • When it closed in 1975 it was the oldest maximum-security prison in the state.
